National Apprenticeship Week
It’s National Apprenticeship Week and our apprentices have started their college courses. They will be out of the workshop and in the classroom supporting their hands on experience with some class-based learning.
It is an important part of their apprenticeships; we look forward to hearing all about it and seeing them put what they are learning into action. Maybe we can learn a thing or two from them too.
Introducing Rob…
Firstly, how are you feeling about starting college this week?
I am excited, and nervous, there will be lots to do but I am looking forward to it.
What made you decide that you wanted to do the Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship?
I did my Level 2 at college in engineering and liked it but thought I would prefer to be on machines. I met Transcover on a college open day, thought it looked pretty cool and here I am.
How are you finding it at Transcover?
It is as cool as I thought it looked. Lots of banter, very funny and very understanding.
What does an average day look like?
We move around the workshop about once a month to different departments, but most days are similar. I get in at about 6:50 to give me ten minutes wake up and then I am on the mill in the machine shop before heading over to assembly.
What has been your highlight so far?
The Christmas party was very funny, and it was great to have a chance to speak to different members of the team and have them share knowledge and stories.
Have you started to think about what you would like to do once your apprenticeship finishes?
No, not yet. I still have two and half years of my apprenticeship and that is what I am thinking about for now.
For anyone thinking about an apprenticeship in the future, what would you like them to know?
Do it.
