Earlier this week, our Production Manager Dave Troughton was kindly invited by Smartsheet UK to McLaren HQ for a Smartsheet workshop and a guided tour of Formula 1 building.
”’The day started with a lovely meet and greet with the guys from Smartsheet, Mike Johnstone, Brad Robertson, Shefali Aggarwal and Mick Fockler. After breakfast, it was on to the MTC factory tour with Danny from McLaren who was excellent and so knowledgeable from past to present, not only McLaren but F1 in general and she is lucky enough to fly all round the world as part of the F1 team” said Dave.

“The tour took me in to the race car factory which not many people get to see and although the cars and team had already left for Baku, the guys were building gearboxes and cleaning two of Lewis Hamilton’s old F1 cars for an upcoming event. More importantly, I got to enter the machine shop which was the highlight for me as machining is my passion. The whole shop is very impressive and I was able to hold and inspect several components from a range of exotic materials, some of which had been 3D printed. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take any photos of this part of the tour but I fully understood the sensitive nature of the work that goes on in this wonderful race department.
The road car factory tour was equally as special with a great view of every process from chassis fabrication, engine installation and the production line in general of the 720 C and the Senna , I wish I could say more but once again the sensitive nature of the work they do they in there is classified. What followed was a very interesting & informative discussion with the Smartsheet team, where we learned more about what Smartsheet can do for our business with resource management (RM) and project management (PM). It was interesting to meet like minded professionals and other businesses too and would like to thank Smartsheet for a fantastic day at McLaren technology centre.”

Hannah Abbott, who is charge of our Compliance & Logistics and uses Smartsheet on a regular basis, explains how we utilise Smartsheet as a business.
”Over the last few years at Transcover we have continuously developed the use of Smartsheet’s throughout the company and make use of the multitude of platforms it has to offer.
Smartsheet allows us to view the progress of ongoing projects between all staff working remotely, on-site in our head office in Aylesford and also our new branch in Warrington. Programmed automated workflows send out scheduled reminders for tasks to be actioned/approved at a touch of a button, which helps reduce the number of emails.
Our biggest success with Smartsheet to date has been the full digitalisation of our manufacturing t-card system. By implementing a successful project planning procedure, step-by-step each department is aware of their workload and schedule – this has dramatically improved efficiency, decreased downtime, reduced costs and saved a few trees in the meantime.”
We thank Smartsheet for inviting us for the day and look forward to the continued successful development here at Transcover.
